PTCL is Heading to a 50 Mbps Speed Project

PTCL is heading to a Project of 50 Mbps internet speed, after which it will be able to offer broadband Internet to 50 Mbps, according to a statement issued by the company.

An industry first, PTCL Pakistan will use VDSL2 technology to provide the linkage of digital subscriber line (DSL) customers with speeds up to 50 Mbps

The project builds on Alcatel-Lucent's VDSL2 Linking experience and should be completed late in the second quarter of 2011.

VDSL2 VDSL2 link has two lines based on copper per subscriber and aggregates of them - almost double the bandwidth available for existing customers, or expanding access to broadband high-speed areas are currently served . Using VDSL2 bonding, service providers can extend the life of their existing copper infrastructure - supporting the provision of bandwidth-intensive, such as triple-play voice, data and IPTV.

According to a recent iSuppli market research IHS, simultaneous access to applications such as file sharing peer-to-peer, online gaming, audio streaming, VoIP and IPTV soon require bandwidths between 50 and 100Mbps. This fits perfectly with the capabilities of VDSL2, especially when combined with innovations such as the link and vectorization.

Commenting on this achievement Chairman and CEO of PTCL Walid Irshaid said

"PTCL is the first service provider worldwide to deploy a commercial VDSL2 link aims to double     the bandwidth provided to existing customers. We are setting the trend in international telecommunications, and are taking the experience of broadband in Pakistan to the next level.

Alcatel-Lucent's VDSL2 technology-linking and comprehensive services and expertise in network integration helps us to keep pace with the requirements of bandwidth increasing our customers, while capitalizing on the infrastructure existing copper. This allows us to quickly deliver high quality, high speed and high availability business and residential services. - Even in areas where previously not possible "

Alcatel-Lucent provides PTCL with its Intelligent Services Access Manager (ISAM) IP access platform - which is the first commercial platform to support the VDSL2 link. Alcatel-Lucent will also supply the link between the client and ready equipment (CPE). Alcatel-Lucent project serves as an integrator of network master, and provides a wide range of professional services - including project management, installation and commissioning, integration and support.

"We understand that service providers need the right tools to bridge the gap until fiber deployments have become ubiquitous. VDSL2 is an ideal union, service providers such as PTCL can almost double the speed of its infrastructure support DSL or expand the scope of your network. This makes it quick and cost effective method of reducing the digital divide, "said Aadil Rauf CEO of Alcatel-Lucent Pakistan Ltd.

"This commercial VDSL2 bonding PTCL project marks the beginning of VDSL2 deployments outside the U.S. relationship -. Where technology is usually used to expand the scope of the copper network"

Alcatel-Lucent is the driving force behind most of the world advanced VDSL2 roll-outs, with customers such as Belgacom, STC, Swisscom and Telekom Austria. Our VDSL2 solution has also been deployed by competing operators, including M-net (Germany) and Digital Region South Yorkshire (United Kingdom).
