The operating system is designed for emerging markets, Nokia is referred to as the "next billion" where smartphones still have not gotten a solid foothold.

The low-end phones now account for more than 47 sales of the company, according to the results of the second quarter and the operating system update seems to be an attempt to maintain the company's strong position in the emerging low-end market phone.
